Welcome to East K-7 Art!
Welcome to the website for East K-7 Art. Here you will find information on what is happening in your child's art class, view images of artwork produced by students, and keep updated on our current art events.
My name is Merri Martens and I teach most of the art classes at East. Colin Mulder is the other art teacher who teaches one of our elementary grade levels here at East. Mr. Mulder teaches at Holland Heights and Holland High School as well.
Our elementary students have art once a week for a 40 minute block of time. They will experiment with different mediums and learn about the elements of art, art history, and art from different cultures.
Our middle school students have art every day for a 48 minute block for one semester. The sixth graders will have art in the fall and seventh students will start in January. Like our elementary students, middle school students will explore different mediums, learn about the principles of design, art history, and art from different cultures but at a much deeper level.
Artwork will displayed inside the school building throughout the school year. In addition, student artwork will be selected for art shows outside the school building. Those exhibits include the Holland Area Arts Council Show which includes students from the ECC and all of our K-7 schools and the Tulip Time Art Show which includes students from Young 5's through high school.
One of the greatest honors an art student can be awarded is the District Art Award. One student from the elementary grades and one from the middle school grades will be selected to represent East as the District Art Award winner. A piece of that student's artwork is chosen, professionally framed, and will hang at our superintendent's office for one year before it is returned to the student.
If you have any questions about our art program at East or if you would like to volunteer to promote our art program I can be reached by email at [email protected].
