The school year will begin with our sixth graders having art the first semester and our seventh graders having art the second semester. The first week of art will focus on making art classroom procedures clear to all of our students so they will have successful and positive experience in art. We will focus on safety and behavior expectations as well as product or grade expectations.
As the semester progresses, we will focus on the elements of art which are: line, color, texture, value, shape, form, and space. Here, we will go into greater depth than our elementary students. In addition, students will explore the principles of design which are: pattern, rhythm, balance, unity, contrast, emphasis, and movement. We will work in a variety of mediums which includes but is not limited to scratch board, printmaking, clay, and painting. In addition to art production, we will study art from different art periods and cultures as well as learn art vocabulary so students can write and talk about pieces of art in a more informed way.
